Research interest lies on Internet Medical Information Service, which is an interdisciplinary study of artificial intelligence (AI), management information systems (MIS), and medical informatics (MI). Fundamental theory and techniques of AI and MIS are studied from the perspectives of the needs and requirements of MI.

We start from the needs of patients and healthcare practitioners, and study the identification, discovery, fusion, analysis, presentation, and management of healthcare and life science information, which is ever-changing and distributed on the Internet and digital archives. To achieve the tasks, major challenges lie on the requirements of tolerable information quality, system friendliness, information load, information readability, and information processing time. Typical topics of the research include:

l            Intelligent retrieval & monitoring of medical information,

l            Visualized searching & presentation of medical information,

l            Multidimensional relationship & association analysis of medical information,

l            Personalized medical information services (ref. an example architecture),

l            Medical computer-assisted instruction system,

l            Medical knowledge management systems, and

l            Performance measurement of healthcare information delivery through the Internet.

Through the interdisciplinary study, the three fields may contribute to and benefit from each other. It calls for the innovative idea from various disciplines, including healthcare, life science, health education, and computer science.
